I have said that reading Hong Lou Meng and Wuthering Heights in my formative years = what I can only politely call fucked up expectations about love.
Add to that Dorothy L. Sayers’ glorious mystery novels and you’ve got IRREVOCABLY fucked up expectations about love.
Nothing much happens when Juran shows up. Nothing except Juran looking for Jeongnyeon at the beach, watching the sunrise together, and telling Jeongnyeon to talk to Yeongseo instead of running away and creating a misunderstanding. Because that’s what Juran did so many years ago.
Twitter recaps are so good that I feel like I’ve watched all of Jeongnyeon (A Star is Born). And I have so many thoughts.
First of all, all-woman theatre troupes? Plays within a drama?? MY RIVAL IS THE ONE WHO GETS ME trope?? EMOTIONALLY UNAVAILABLE GENTLE SUNBAE???
Juran is the first love who got (or was taken) away, the one with whom their time was cut short. In a way, Jeongnyeon and Yeongseo both have Juran as a quiet thread dividing and yet running between them.
@lindiebee For sure! The amount of vocabulary I picked up naturally watching Korean vlogs is no joke. (I discovered Yuzutangerine’s YT channel and had a blast.) I’ve had a little more difficulty finding Japanese and French vlogs that have a similar calm, bookish vibe…
