Brian and Sara Wilkes were on vacation in Florida when they left their 6-month-old baby in a tent on the beach while the baby napped.

A good Samaritan noticed the baby and contacted the police, and as they waited for paramedics, the Wilkes returned from a walk with their other children, admitting to leaving the infant.

Police arrested the parents and held the children while they awaited other relatives to come get them.

Major Dustin Cosson with the Walton County Sheriff's Office said the Wilkes left their baby, "way longer than what would be reasonable."

"The baby could roll over and suffocate itself, or the wind could blow a towel over its face. There's no telling what could have happened."

The couple has 12 months to each pay $1,000 in fines, work 25 hours of community service in Florida, attend a parenting class, and are barred from Walton County, Florida.
