NWS Los Angeles’ “Red Flag Warning” remains in effect until 3 p.m. on Friday.

The Angeles National Forest remains at a high state of readiness with additional firefighters prepositioned, ready to respond to reported fires.

If you see something, say something. Report any sign of smoke or fire immediately by dialing 9-1-1.

Tonight’s photo highlights the Oak Flat Fire Station which sits along Interstate 5 above Templin Highway. Interstate 5 is the primary north-south economic and transit backbone of California.

Today is poised to be the hottest of the week overall. In fact, we already broke a record at Oxnard (current temperature 87, old record 86 set in 2015) and its only 10am! Here is a map showing temperature changes from now to this time yesterday. Most of the area is up. #cawx

Earlier today, Margaret Vinci was recognized by the ShakeAlert System Executive Committee and the ShakeAlert Commissioners, Education, Outreach, and Technical Engagement Core Committee for 33 years of exemplary service to earthquake preparedness, safety, and communication!

The recognition is incredibly well deserved. Margaret helped establish the West Coast ShakeOut Drill and has served in numerous leadership roles within #ShakeAlert, the Earthquake Country Alliance, the Southern California Seismic Network, and many other organizations. She has also been instrumental in securing funding for earthquake science, engineering, and the SCSN.

Throughout her 33 year career, Margaret has helped make earthquake science understandable and accessible to people of all ages. Through MANY Seismo Lab tours for students and important visitors and appearances in television, radio, and documentary interviews, she has educated and inspired generations. Her work behind the scenes has also supported and strengthened our entire Lab community.

Margaret will be retiring next month, so please join us in congratulating her on this well earned recognition and an extraordinary career!

The National Weather Service Los Angeles Office has issued a RED FLAG WARNING until 3PM on Friday.

The Angeles National Forest has moved into an augmented staffing pattern that includes an additional US Forest Service Engine Strike Team prepositioned ready to respond to reported wildfires.

If you see something, say something. Report any sign of smoke or fire immediately by dialing 9-1-1. If you dial 9-1-1 from your cell phone, be sure to know your location.
