He’s hedging his bets to save his job if the government changes at the next election. We’re already in the next campaign cycle. Deck chairs will be shuffled and public servants moved around. It’s a bit rich for him to come out now, especially when his agency and others in the AIC were reluctant to cooperate and be upfront with the RC. Any sane reading of the legislation governing ASIO and others shows they have the powers they need, so bloody use them. Expect more changing rhetoric from other statutory office holders like this over the next 18 months.
