President William Ruto is now seen as one of the most heavily guarded presidents in Africa

During Ruto's campaign period, he branded himself as the “Hustlers’ President,” he often said he had strong connections with ordinary citizens and did not need heavy security

He even told the government of his then-boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, that he was comfortable being protected by the hustlers themselves or even a private company like G4S if his official security was withdrawn. However, after becoming president, he is surrounded by hundreds of GSU officers before addressing the same hustlers

This raises an important question: what changed in the relationship and connection between President Ruto and the hustlers he once strongly identified as his colleagues
