I went to refill my gas cylinder this morning.

I met the owner and told him I wanted to buy 5kg of gas.

He weighed my cylinder and started refilling it.

Somehow, he ended up filling 5.5kg instead of 5kg.

He weighed the cylinder again and told me I would have to pay for the extra half kg.

The price was ₦1,700 per kg, so I was supposed to pay ₦8,500 for 5kg.

But because of his mistake, he insisted that I should pay ₦9,350.

I told him I didn't have the extra money with me.

He took the cylinder, released half a kg of gas into the air, and then handed it back to me. 😢

Imagine this to be someone who has been working tirelessly just to keep up with a ₦600K annual rent. Then, all of a sudden, the rent is increased to ₦1.5M. How is that person expected to cope?

This is exactly why I keep saying, don't wait until you can afford land in a fully developed area. Buy where you can genuinely afford today, even if it's an underdeveloped location, and start building a house you can realistically complete in phases.

Rent will keep increasing, but once you own your land, nobody can wake up one morning and increase the price of it. The earlier you start, the earlier you begin securing your future housing stability.
