Until you get married, you will never understand why most married men cheat. Your wife can decide to close the strait of Hormuz for a whole month and because some men cannot go for long without oil, they decide to get it from Venezuela.
The Adventures of My Supervisor and I

I didn't ask to be paired with him.
When the coordinator called my name and then his "Laura, you'll be working under Dr. Williams for this cycle" the room didn't react, but I felt my stomach drop anyway. Everyone knew who Williams was Thirty-one, sharp-suited, the kind of quiet-serious that made junior staff straighten their spines when he walked past. He'd never once smiled at anyone in a meeting, as far as I'd seen.
I expected cold. I got something else entirely.
"You're the one who submitted that report on grid efficiency," he said, not looking up from his laptop when I knocked on his office door that first morning.
It wasn't a question.
"Yes, sir."
"Don't call me sir. We're going to be in each other's space for the next few months, and 'sir' will get exhausting fast." He finally looked up. His eyes were the kind of tired-alert that comes from carrying more than his title.
"Laura is fine when it's just us."
Just us.
I filed that phrase away and told myself it meant nothing.....
"You're not writing anything down," he said, amused.
"I'm listening."
"Laura" My name in his mouth did something unfair to my chest.
"Write it down anyway.
I don't want to have this conversation twice."
I wrote it down. I did not write down the other thing I noticed that when he said my name, he said it slowly, like he liked the shape of it.
