As CTU leaders, we will not use PAC money to pay our siblings that live out of state for field organizing work for school board elections. That's easy for us because it is ethical, but for current leadership, hard to do.
CTU needs to advocate for the release of all TIF dollars. We are old enough to remember when @coreteachers was against all TIFs. What happened? Wait, we can answer that. Releasing all TIFs will help prevent these cuts & prevent a loan. This is why we need new leadership.
@ChalkandChange We have said numerous times that there are wins & that the contract isn’t life changing. Both can be true.
It can also be true that things that were agreed upon were just that—agreed upon.
It can also be true that while the language is there, it might not be solid ground.
but with a friendly mayor that cares about public education, shouldn't we expect more? 💸💵 And, as always, if there is an inaccuracy in the logic here, please correct us. We always want to learn.
If the Mayor would have declared a TIF surplus, there would have been about $600 million of that surplus allocated to CPS (assuming there are about $1.2 billion in TIF surplus right now). If this is accurate, and we have a large deficit coming for the upcoming year...
why wasn't all of the pot declared a surplus? An extra $300 million would go a long way in helping to fund our schools. Is CTU advocating to release all of the TIFs & then advocating to get rid of TIFs? We haven't heard much about it aside from being happy with the $300 million..
Either Pedro was the problem and in the way of giving us a transformative contract (which is what we were told for months) or Pedro gave us a transformative contract (which must be true if we actually have a transformative contract).
Which one is it?
Today, Local 2 firefighters are speaking at City Hall to get a fair contract. These brave firefighters have been going on 4 years w/o a bargaining agreement.
Enough is enough.
@REALcaucus members stand behind the Local 2 in their fight.
