In 1979, Elvita Adams climbed to the 86th floor of the Empire State Building in a moment of deep despair and jumped, intending to end her life.

As she fell, a powerful gust of wind reportedly pushed her back toward the building, landing her on a narrow ledge on the 85th floor instead of the ground far below.

A security guard later found her and pulled her to safety through a window. She survived the fall with a broken pelvis and was taken to hospital for treatment and psychiatric care. Her story remains one of the most extraordinary and unlikely survival accounts associated with the Empire State Building.
