A candidate putting out ads where they are personally speaking English, Spanish, Urdu, Hindi, and Arabic is one of the most American things I’ve ever seen in politics. You absolutely love to see it.
What's impressive about Zohran's campaign is that he understands that our mayors have to be showmen. Bill De Blasio was too corporate and reserved, as was Bloomberg (of course).
But LaGaurdia, Lindsey, Koch and others are more in the NYC mold. Eric Adams, as terrible a mayor as he is, understands that we need an undercurrent of performance and chaos in our leaders because the city itself runs on chaos and performance. Zohran gets this too.
Don't mistake the reaction he's eliciting for idol worship or the kind of dimwit DC political-stan culture that the DNC tried to whip up for Hillary, Biden and Harris.
It's not that. It's very different. It's glee that he gives the city's eccentricities their due and doesn't hold himself separate from them. Will he be a good mayor? It remains to be seen; the proof will be in the proverbial pudding. But he has the right way to *communicate*, which is a very good start.
@johnnymaga This may shock you, but many people like other people. You don’t have to live in New York. It’s actually better that you don’t, I just feel sorry for the place you choose to live that it has you as a community member.
We really got 58mil people (pop of England), in basically a straight line, created the most economically powerful and important sub-region in the world, and then said its infrastructure network shouldnt progress beyond 1980
