If you merely get into an accident and rear end someone from something like distracted driving the insurance is liable. I might have a clue to what I’m talking about….

I’ve not had an accident in 20 years, yet I pay a car payment in insurance for my families cars monthly…my accident 20 years ago was $200 in damage
