Burna Boy is not making music for Nigerians.
And that’s ok. For now.
A couple weeks ago @JoeyAkan came on here and said that and I didn’t completely see his POV, but now I do.
Burna has said a lot in interviews(some I don’t agree with) as of late that has made this clear but I think it should be noted that you cannot present yourself the same to every market you are trying to penetrate.
I think Burna Boy becoming to be a priority on a Major Label in this way presents an opportunity for more African artists and artists across the diaspora to get real exposure in America, one of the biggest and most lucrative markets.
On the other hand I can see why this may present a problem in the future. The further he pushes the envelope, the more major labels will stick their nose in and sign more artists, which in the end may sacrifice the type of music coming from these parts of the diaspora that we love.
Will be interesting to see where this goes.
Live Music Events are changing and Lil Baby isn’t immune to that.
Streaming & the festival market is changing the way we consume music. And we’ll continue to see artist struggle to sell hard tickets

Burna Boy just sold out 41,000 @ Citi Field in NY, and he’s slated to do over 90,000 in September in South Africa 🇿🇦.
