These 90 seconds contain one of the most concise, relatable lessons on civics I’ve heard.
Thank you @BenSasse for redeeming your time.
Thank you @HooverInst and @p_m_robinson for making this happen.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people impacted by the terrible fire in South Orange County.
We pray for them and for our brave firefighters who are battling the blaze.
Everyone stay safe out there.

Democrats: the new Tesla Roadster has no practical purpose.
Also, Democrats: we built a partial high speed rail line that requires you to fly off the end of it.
This is NOT a skit.
Jaime West, a Democrat running for Fayette County Council in Indiana, gave an EMBARRASSING interview where she appears to mumble and rant the entire time.
Is she intoxicated?
Newport Beach residents recently received a political mailer calling past Council Members corrupt for adopting a state-mandated Housing Element in 2022. The mailer criticized the past Newport Beach City Council for adopting a housing plan in 2022 that complies with state law and preserves local control of development in our city.
So, who funded the mailer? His name is Ken Picerne, based in Los Angeles, and he develops high-density housing around Southern California, including Newport Beach.
Picerne donated $150,000 to the "Coalition for Responsible Housing" on September 3, 2025. That committee then paid a Las Vegas group to gather signatures in Newport Beach to qualify an initiative, which is Measure H on your ballot.
Picerne donated another $835,000 (!!!) to this political action committee across donations on May 6, June 5, and June 29.
Then Picerne donated ANOTHER $255,900 to the committee on September 15, and $200,000 more last week! Nearly $1.5 million to fundamentally change Newport Beach!
Cynical doesn't even begin to describe self-serving Measure H. The Republican Party urges you to vote no on this ill-advised ballot measure. No on H!
As @GavinNewsom whines about the impact of the Iran War on fuel prices, his own policies still have California leading the nation (even Hawaii!) on cost of gasoline. Today's numbers (thanks to @AAA_Travel):

Victor Davis Hanson: Gavin Newsom Is the Worst Governor of Any State I've Seen in My Lifetime
California has the highest gas prices, highest sales and income tax rates, and nearly half the homeless in the nation.
Meanwhile, all Gavin Newsom talks about is slavery and Donald Trump.
“All he does is wiggle his arms and shoulders and try to look like he's Jack Kennedy. And it doesn't work. He's a completely empty suit.”

California High-Speed Rail Authority CEO Ian Choudri just walked away from reporters (me, @ZavalaA, @juliewattsTV and @JeannieNguyenTV) and did not answer any questions following the special High-Speed Rail board board meeting addressing nearly $600,000 the CA High-Speed Rail Authority approved in taxpayer-funded contractor expenses deemed unallowable by the state inspector general.
The expenses included first-class airfare, a cigar lounge, an escape room, and a nightclub, among other things.
*In fairness to Mr. Choudri, I should not he made remarks during the meeting, itself. I plan to provide that in a post when possible.

Avoid Balboa Peninsula Due to Flooding.
The City of Newport Beach is advising residents and motorists to avoid the Balboa Peninsula due to street flooding caused by recent storm conditions and elevated tides.
NEW: After a major Skid Row drug crackdown led to 23 arrests, LA City Councilmember @cd14losangeles, chair of the Homelessness and Health Committee, is demanding answers over reports residents are being blocked from returning to their tents and accessing belongings.
“Skid Row residents deserve protection from exploitation and violence, and they deserve dignity and accountability from the institutions responsible for their safety,” Jurado says.
Authorities say the operation targeted alleged drug trafficking, with fentanyl, meth, firearms, cash and vehicles seized.
NEW: In his run for governor, Xavier Becerra crafted a new family origin story.
He called his parents “2 immigrants” with $12 the night he won the primary—but his dad was born in Sacramento.
A Latino activist calls it a case of “immigrant stolen valor.”

BREAKING: Federal court records reveal a Mexican national previously convicted of human smuggling was allegedly waiting near the Balboa Fun Zone on Oct. 3 to pick up migrants arriving by boat when he was arrested by Border Patrol.
Investigators say the man admitted he had already made multiple pickups tied to Newport Harbor smuggling operations, including one linked to an abandoned panga discovered near the Fun Zone in September.
According to court documents, the smuggling organization allegedly provided him a vehicle and cell phone, and he said each pickup reduced an $18,000 debt from his own illegal boat crossing by $1,000.
That same day, authorities intercepted a vessel carrying 14 Mexican nationals off Newport Beach. Federal prosecutors have charged him with attempted transportation of undocumented immigrants and illegal re-entry after deportation.
