i care about: empowerment, gender equality & norms change, global migration, data that truly drives decisions, conversation & debate, the details in all of this
I wish all my meetings were this fun. On Monday, I got to see firsthand the type of high quality preschool that all 3- and 4-year-olds would have access to under my plans. Let’s get this done.
Great perspective here and valuable data on how to persuade vaccine hesitant and vaccine resistant holdouts. Different approaches for different groups. All based on a bit of empathy. https://t.co/wUKWKdZIcr
Every provision of the #buildbackbetter plan brings us closer to being a more humane country. We are so close, yet so far, with so much on the line. Excellent breakdown here of the #paidleave proposal and policy options specifically. https://t.co/mkK7lhzIPv
Very important thread. Can't separate #childcare from PreK. Must be holistic 0-5 system for the business model to work, and for families to get what they need. This is first opportunity in 50 years to get it right. Thanks, @ehaspel for breaking it down.
Facts: there are over 2 million child care practitioners in this country. Most of them make poverty wages. The Build Back Better plan would give them all a living wage and move many squarely into the middle class.
Investments, it turns out, can MAKE money.

In 2019, the nation spent about $12,800 per child for children ages 5 to 18. For 3- and 4-year-olds, it spent $2,800. And for infants to 2-year-olds, the United States invests less than $500.

The forthcoming infrastructure proposals are our best chance in decades at tackling the climate crisis in a meaningful, systemic way. We can't miss this opportunity to take action.

The US almost passed universal public #childcare 50 years ago but Nixon vetoed as ‘family-weakening’. Important fact we all need to know. This patchwork, unreliable, unaffordable system has never worked—for kids or families—and is at its breaking point. https://t.co/UYnpKc2pkF
Never mind the however many millions your best-in-class treatment cost us all. Don’t be afraid, as long as you have health insurance, a helicopter airlift to one of the best hospitals in the country, and a large team of doctors looking after only you.
I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!
Things look bleak but there is a scenario where Biden's lead in the polls is what it appears to be & he wins w/o a lot of drama. The SCOTUS doesn't overturn ACA. Big relief package this winter 4 economy. And the virus ebbs by summer 2021 and kids are all back in school next fall.
Powerful video created by @xtinatini for ##DNC2020convention about Alejandra Suarez’s story. She was separated from her US Citizen children under the Trump Administration. Tonight you heard her daughter Estela speak.
COVID Update August 18: "I'm Joe Biden and I accept your nomination to be your next president. Normally I wouldn't give the pandemic portion of my speech through Andy Slavitt's Twitter account but here goes." 1/
The tragic, defining episode of Biden's life may also have made him think about parenting in a way few men of his generation do. https://t.co/bEj83Db2RH via @HuffPostPol
COVID Update July 24: There’s an important ingredient we are short of in combatting Coronavirus.
The rest of the world has more of it. We need to find it to beat the virus. The ingredient is trust. 1/
