Over the past couple of years I have grown frustrated with our governing body about how competitions are run, our “pathway” for developing athletes and the bias towards endurance running, People will give me all sorts of excuses for it but at the end of the day that’s how I and pretty much any other sprints, jumps and throws coach sees it. This year I highlighted how I had been nominated for a 7th consecutive year for development coach of the year, the award has lost its value to me having gone years where I probably should have won it and didn’t. I have went to the last few award nights only to support my athletes that had also been nominated and every year I have said I am not going back but have to support them. This year however I will not be attending and have asked for my name to be taken off the nominee list. To be nominated for an award for something my athlete has done but then my athlete not to be even nominated for u20 athlete of the year for his high level wchievement is criminal. How can an athlete win a silver medal at the world juniors not be nominated?? Anyway good luck to the coaches that are nominated, I wish you both well
