“I began to weep...because no one was worthy...But then I heard, ‘Worthy is the Lamb’!” -John (Rev 5.)
Thank you Lord, that even when I look all over & can’t find nobody else...YOU remain. When all others fail, You are...
-Able
-Powerful
-Sovereign
And, above all, you are HERE.
I needed this one today! Sometimes looking at the world around us is horrifying. And to think it will only get worse until heaven comes. Thank God for GOD!
Life - and the people in it - will never be perfect. This is earth. It can never be for us what only heaven can. So relax. Let it be what it is. Let them be who they are. And remember that the longing inside of you is because “He set eternity in our hearts”. (Eccl 3:11)
The disconnect between our personal lives & the power of God’s Word is in our tendency to take our lofty selves to the sacred pages. But real doesn’t apply to fake. God didn’t call us up to reveal Himself to us. He came down right into this mess. Forget lofty. Take what’s lowly.
Open those Scriptures & welcome the Holy Spirit to speak into your real stuff. Into your wrecked relationships. Into your aching body. Into your overeating or under-eating. Into your hate toward someone you live with. Into your bill-paying, kid-raising, test-taking, love-faking.
Bring what’s true to what’s true. That’s where the connection takes place. God is unimpressed with us flexing our muscles for Him. His mighty hand extends most powerfully to the weak.
“Though the Lord is high, He regards the lowly but the haughty He knows from afar.” Ps.138:6
Luke 12. The love in Jesus’ voice: “Don’t be afraid, little flock, because your Father delights to give you the kingdom.” V.32
He knows we’re outnumbered & scared.
He sees us act big because we feel small.
Reminds us our Father is delightful & He’s giving us a kingdom. Breathe.
Do your homework. Study the Scriptures, Genesis to Revelation. Study them hard. Know the NT from end to end. Learn to distinguish between differing interpretations that are well within the bounds of orthodoxy & actual heresies. The ESV has 757,439 words in it.That’s alotta Bible.
Don’t change course midcourse unless you’re on the wrong course. So many don’t end up where they set out to go because they mistook the inevitable storms and challenges for the wrong course. Adjust your sails if need be, but eyes on the compass, not the winds.
Y’all, I’m in Boston & need to go to bed & can’t quit looking at wallpapers. Such a fun Twitter evening. What a wonderful thing to get a glimpse of who and what you love enough to look at 500 times a day. Thank y’all for playing. I needed to remember how wonderful Twitter can be.
Reality is, there are many things people really can stop us from doing. Opportunities we will truly never get. But do you realize no one can stop you from doing the most powerful thing in human capacity? No one can stop you from praying. No one can sew up the veil that was torn.
“Aslan,” said Lucy, “you’re bigger.”
“That is because you are older, little one,” answered he.
“Not because you are?”
“I am not. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger.”
I love this gem from C. S. Lewis’s novel ‘Prince Caspian.’ A profound picture of sanctification.
The only way to end up living a bold & brave life is to live a bold & brave day. So this very day:”Be strong & courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you… Do not be...discouraged.”
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power & wealth & wisdom & might & honor & glory & blessing.” Rev.5:12
Jesus.
Wholly worthy of all our trust.
Of all our praise.
Of our lifeblood & supreme love.
Jesus.
To whom else would we ever go? He alone has the words of life.
People leave Christianity because it didn't "work." Here's the thing. Jesus isn't our genie in a bottle. Praying isn't wish fulfillment. Going to church isn't for behavior modification. Tithing isn't for becoming prosperous. And none of it means that we'll have perfect children.
