🔥 Kemi Badenoch:
“Bridget Phillipson represents everything that is wrong with the Labour Party, she is incompetent, and can dish it but can’t take it. She was extremely rude to my shadow Justice Secretary yesterday…calling him a racist, why doesn’t she apologise for that”.
The party that called Tories "scum", leavers "Nazis", moderate Muslims "Uncle Toms", Kwasi Kwarteng "not really black", Liz Truss "a lettuce", Covid "The Johnson Variant" & Kemi Badenoch "blackface for white supremacy" is hurt because Badenoch called Phillipson "spiteful". Bless.
Labour can:
- Call Tories 'scum'.
- Call Brexiteers 'worse than Nazis'.
- Say Farage flirted with the Hitler Youth.
- Compare Truss to a lettuce.
But the Tories are apparently 'classless' for pointing out Bridget Phillipson is a terrible Education Secretary? 🤔
#TwoTierLabour
So she’s happy to wage a class war and ruin the education system and harm student’s prospects, but looks outraged and close to tears, needing a colleague to pat her on the shoulder for comfort, when @KemiBadenoch calls her out for doing a dreadful job at PMQs.
Remeber this, Labour had 402 MP's, and not one of them was good enough to replace Starmer.
They had to have a by-election by a Labour MP resigning, to get someone in to replace him.
Thats the quality of the MP's running the country.
Boris called an election.
Theresa May called an election.
Labour demanded an election when Rishi Sunak became prime minister.
Funny how all those same Labour MPs don’t want an election now, even though Andy Burnham is about to become prime minister, with no mandate.
Regardless of political persuasion and/or personal animus, I have to believe that the majority of people understand that this type of triumphalism *on the very same day* that Keir resigns is fundamentally indecent.
Starmer made many mistakes that I myself have publicly criticised him strongly for. Nonetheless, how Labour has treated him today has been absolutely diabolical. It’s been truly stunning to witness.
I don’t think they’ve considered, for a second, how disconnected from the electorate this little tableaux is - complete with the Chancellor in shot, vying for a job no doubt.
It’s also, classless, only a few hours after their leader and PM fell on his sword.
This won’t end well.
As things stand Andy Burnham will take over as Prime Minister in three weeks time. Without a contest. Or a mandate. Or a settled team. Or a detailed 100 days strategy. That’s a challenging scenario. To put it mildly.
Keir has given huge service to our country and I want to thank him for his leadership and dedication during such a challenging period.
His decision marks the beginning of a transition and it is important that this process is conducted in an orderly and responsible way. I will put myself forward as part of this process.
The country expects stability, seriousness and a continued focus on the issues that matter most and that is what it will get.
As we move forward, our priority must be to work together to get the country back to where we all want it to be. People want to see progress on economic growth, cost of living, public services, housing and opportunities for the next generation. Political change should never distract from the responsibility to improve people's lives.
The Labour movement has always been at its strongest when it looks forward with confidence and purpose. This is what we will do from here and we will make sure this transition is a positive process of renewal for our party and our country.
Look at them all, grinning as they parachute in a bloke who has tried and failed to be Labour leader twice, who won a manufactured by-election and will now become PM unopposed so he can avoid all scrutiny of what he actually stands for. Risible.
The country is not being governed and Labour say there won't be a Prime Minister till September.
Keir Starmer is off on a farewell tour and Andy Burnham wants a summer holiday. Neither is thinking about our national security.
We need to cut welfare and fund our military.
“No mandate. Nobody voted for this.”
Your words, @AngelaRayner.
I assume you will be calling for a General Election once the new Labour leader is in place?
Starmer became Labour leader by being 1: a man and 2: not Corbyn
He became PM having been largely untested.
Burnham may become Labour leader by being 1: a man and 2: not Starmer
He may become PM having been largely untested.
Spot the problem?
Hiking national insurance
The Family Farm Tax
Giving up on real welfare reform
Not funding our defence
Not drilling our own oil and gas
Appointing Peter Mandelson…then lying about what had happened
Britain is not ungovernable. Keir Starmer is a terrible Prime Minister. But the problem isn’t just Starmer.
Labour MPs only want higher taxes to hand out more benefits, as the Welfare Secretary has pointed out. These are Labour’s choices and their values, regardless of who is running the party.
We need to get Britain working again. We need the @Conservatives.
