Rex Masai’s family is still trapped in that Thursday. Teacher Albert Ojwang’s son has no father because a post took a man into Central Police Station, and he never came home. Halima was pulled from her house. People are still being snatched.

Children in this country in some places still panic when a car slows down outside.

He wants this filed as “past mistakes.”

How do you ask for forgiveness for a fire you are still fueling?

An apology with no commanders in the dock is not remorse. It is condescension. It is a politician looking you in the eye and telling you to shut up while the tinted cars are still on the road.

He thinks rehearsed words will raise the dead, pay the hospital bills, and wipe the blood.

He assumes we are fools.

Today we planted trees to mark Katiba Day and to remember those we lost in the struggle. The 2010 Constitution must be protected, respected, and fully implemented.

We met at the People’s Ground, Jeevanjee Gardens, where I joined CJ Emeritus Willy Mutunga, presidential aspirant Reuben Kigame, immediate former LSK President Faith, the convener of Social Justice Centres Happy Olal, and the President of Bunge La Mwananchi Nicholas Galgalo to celebrate 16 years of the 2010 Constitution through reflection on the Kenya we want today.
