I moved beyond first hurdle ππ»ββοΈ in my indie journey!
Cross 9$ ARR on my on-device receipt scanner app @recu_app . I took 8 rejections for my first version to get approved. But as I iterated, I learnt and starting applied my learnings. Now it is taking me less than 4-6 hrs to get it approved in first try.
So consistency + agency = productivity!
If you are looking for a private, local AI based, on-demand receipt scanning & finance app, please give @recu_app a try! #BuildingInPublic #swiftui #iOS
Recu v1.3.0 is live on the App Store, powered by local #mlx models.
Whatβs new: multi-image & multi-page PDF (Pro), improved VLM extraction, AUD support, and better batch receipt extraction tools.
Get it on the App Store: https://t.co/Y0GA9ms6Aq
My 1st ever app store launch. It is a surreal moment. You can just do things with high agency and commoditized AI!
On-Device AI is the future and I'm glad to be living in it!

New year, new app. Recu @recu_app is an iOS receipt scanner that runs local VLMs entirely on-device using #Apple#MLX : no cloud, no data uploads, no privacy theater.
Built it because every existing app either had garbage OCR or wanted my financial life on their servers.
Full story, demo video, and why I went from French-learning apps (Apprendre @apprendre_app) to fighting receipts in 2026 β check the thread below.

β 2025: shipped Apprendre @apprendre_app , a macOS French-learning app powered by #MLX LLMs, my first real step into local models on Apple silicon.
β 2026: leveling up with Recu, an iOS app that uses local VLMs to read and parse receipts on-device and auto-log them into a system, with the goal of becoming a full insights builder.
Why receipts? Iβm that person who asks for a receipt for a $1 coffee βfor my records.β Years of paper folders turned into chaos, then I gave up. The receipts won.
Every app I tried either had OCR that treated my grocery bill like hieroglyphics, or demanded I upload my financial life to their cloud.
They say they donβt sell my data but collect my images? They say they donβt collect data but ask me to login? Or they limit scans or show ads? Hard pass.βπ»
I did what someone with commoditized intelligence and high agency would do : built the app I needed myself.
The TestFlight build is live and the App Store review is in progress. I'm looking for early beta testers.

This is very much V1:
β οΈ Quality is not 100% accurate yet, especially across messy / long receipts.
β οΈ hitting some OOM scenarios on certain devices.
But the promise of local VLMs on everyday phones is crystal clear, and this space is going to move very fast.
Glad to be building front and center as it happens.
Huge thanks to the Apple #MLX (@awnihannun and team), the broader MLX / on-device community (hi ππ»LocalLLaMA!), and especially the @Alibaba_Qwen team for their VLM offering that powers Recu.
Dropping a demo video below ππ». If you join the beta, hit reply with your weirdest receipt and letβs see where Recu breaks so we can make it better.
