@Berlinnaeus I did this repeatedly in Italy last year but mostly because I'd misread the door sign. Nobody batted an eyelid. In fact, many bathrooms were unisex or had shared hand-wash areas. Continental Europeans don't seem to be obsessed with this non-issue
