#EllenhasCOVIDandwatched: Moneyball (2011, Hulu)
1.5/2 thumbs up
A guy with a funny name pretty much takes credit for someone else’s statistical analysis.
-0.125 for my second movie this week with surprise crisp ratt.
#EllenHasCOVIDandwatched: Maid (2021, Netflix)
1.5/2 thumbs up
A young mother attempts to break free from generations of trauma.
+0.05 for every millennial out there trying to do the same.
#EllenhasCOVIDandwatched: Luckiest Girl Alive (2022, Netflix)
1.625/2 thumbs up
Mika Kunis navigates a variety of trigger warning worthy experiences. Lots of unexpected special guests.
+0.125 for potentially being worth a rewatch
#EllenhasCOVIDandwatched: The Blind Side (2009, Netflix)
I avoided this movie for 10+ years. Though it held my attention it had a bunch of unnecessary dramatizations and prevalent white savior undertones throughout. Couldn’t we just have had the story for what it really was?
#EllenhasCOVIDandwatched: Big (1988, Hulu)
1.125/2 👍
A young Tom Hanks is an older version to someone else. Eventually, he decides adult life isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Gotta agree with him there.
-0.25 for a weird adult / man child relationship.
#EllenhasCOVIDandwatched: Uncoupled (Netflix, 2022)
1.375/2 👍
NPH tries to date after a 17 yr relationship ends. Probably very stereotypical but all I know about gay men are stereotypes. (See Modern Family Venn diagram.)
+0.125 for being entertaining but easy to watch.
#JanmansWatchAMovie Flashdance (1983)
1/2 thumbs up
A young Bette Porter dances, pretends to weld, and dates her much older, much creepy boss.
-0.5 shooting LA for Pittsburgh in a totally unbelievable way.
#JanmansWatchAMovie: Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town
1.125/2 thumbs up
A woman travels across town using a variety of modes of transportation to do some light home wrecking.
+0.125 for Mackenzie Davis, the only reason we were here.
#JanmansWatchAMovie: Cleaner (2007, Netflix)
1.125/2 thumbs up
A retired cop gets involved in a crime unwillingly. As always, ACAB.
-0.25 for a weak storyline.
Went to an industry awards dinner last night where both lifetime achievement award recipients apologized to their spouses and kids for not being around.
I’ll skip the lifetime achievement award and spend as many of my minutes as possible with my friends, family, and hobbies.
#JanmansWatchAMovie: Twilight (2008, Hulu)
1/2 thumbs up
Relocated teenage girl willingly involves herself with a sparkly killer and his associates despite knowing each other for only a short period of time.
-0.25 for bad dialogue and general lack of quality.
@CashewSpell We’ve done allegiant, spirit, frontier many times and have had almost universally good experiences. Only problem is if there’s a delay / problem you don’t have many other options.
#JanmansWatchAMovie: Tully (2018, HBO Max)
1.375/2 thumbs up
A new mom is milked by hired help, and other unusual occurrences. This told a much different story than I expected.
+0.25 for Mackenzie Davis, the only reason we were here, TBH.
There really isn’t a st Patrick’s day movie, but if there were, it would be about my grandmothers insistence that st Patrick’s day isn’t a reason to drink alcohol. Somehow, it would be a comedy. Still working out the details.
