As a resident of Texas, I am angry our National Guard is being used this way. Set aside the legality of the actions taken by the federal government, I am upset at our governor to even agreeing to this. Chicago’s problems are Chicago’s problems. If there were a natural disaster or people are in trouble, we are happy to extend a helping hand - it is our duty as fellow humans. This fight isn’t ours.
@DogOnTheRoof@DarrigoMelanie You are only looking at the slop that gets posted on social media. You aren't seeing the research and business tools making their way into medicine and education.
I hereby demand @michaelmoynhan do a Finkelstein voice reading and explanation of this post on @wethefifth .
Michael doesn't get on X enough so this is addressed care of: @MattWelch
The beauty of the United States is that we have members of every single group around the world and can share their cultural memories of the mistakes of every society in human history. One of these is Jewish people.
In this particular case, that cultural memory is extremely strong here. It is lacking in Germany. Even though Germans are sensitive to what happened there in the 1920-30s, many of the victims of that tragedy are no longer among their population.
This leaves it up to the Unites States to draw upon our extremely diverse population and knowledge of history to point out exactly how the current German government is barreling down the same road they did a century ago.
@blcartwright@julieroginsky The complete lack of ability to see the irony in that almost requires a DEI program to make sure they have some Jewish people in their newsroom with a bit of cultural memory to question that praise.
The primary problem is the states that are attempting to overrule federal law. How many of the people protesting in the streets over raids don't realize that simple law enforcement cooperation would end the raids. If someone is in the country illegally and arrested for a crime, have them deported from the jail. The raids will end.
@teapartytempest@michaelshermer That is the helpful tell. When someone chooses a select ethnic group like "the Jews" as their whipping post, you know they aren't thinking logically anymore. You've lost this person to their ideology and it is really up to their friends and family to try to pry them back.
Worse yet, the Instagram fabulous got into boats to stage a "kidnapping."
The only issue with that operation is Israel was too quick at gathering the "hostages" and getting them on a flight to Athens.
This causes the odd inconsistency of social media pleas of loved ones being kidnapped by the evil Israeli military and being tortured in cages with pre-filmed "hostage videos" demanding their release. This backfires when these posts trend alongside footage of the kidnapping victims deboarding at gates to roaring crowds of fans celebrating their negotiated release and repatriation.
Worst of all, a cease fire was drawn up, debated and agreed upon the whole time of their voyage so that by the time they arrived in Israeli waters for the "capture" portion of the play, they were more or less threatening a peace process that had found its finish line.
After all of this, they appear sad and upset that the cause celeb may be waning. But why? The very people you claim to want to help have a modicum of hope this might be over?!
@KonstantinKisin You've gotten to the route. Pride. It is the same thing that happens with vaccine mandates and almost all other bad policy that weasels its way into the common politic. "I made up my mind and I'll be damned if I am going to question my earlier decision."
@adamcarolla Remember the time the right used to blame Florida for having too many gays? Sure am glad we aren't drawing useless conclusions about human behavior from weather patterns anymore.
But the best side effect of not blocking all the people who use "jew" as a slur is that the political viewpoints have evened out in the population. Lefties all came out of the antisemitic closet and now they even accuse the president of being part of a powerful conspiracy of pedophiles. The circle of life is amazing.
I love the feeling of someone "assuming" my viewpoint and name calling only for me to engage, disarm, and we find agreement to the point they like my response 5 messages into the conversation. Other people? Well, they remove themselves from my life themselves when they drive by and block. I know I need not bother.

@bendreyfuss I also love the ability to drive by and block. It really shortens the wasted debate with the closed minded to them running in the room, farting, then running away.
