The 2011 movie didn’t kill Green Lantern. Safe casting and spectacle-first writing did. Chandler and Pierre just proved the characters work when you stop treating them like action figures.
This isn’t the Hal Jordan most fans wanted. That’s why it works. Chandler plays him like a man who’s already lost the argument with himself and Pierre makes John the one who refuses to let him off the hook.
If you needed more flying constructs and less actual tension, this show wasn’t made for you. Episode 1 already sorted the audience.
Calling this “not Green Lantern enough” is the same reflex that kept the property stuck for 15 years. The ring is the least interesting part of what Chandler and Pierre are doing.
