BREAKING NEWS: USA Track & Field and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee have selected St. Louis, Missouri to host the 2028 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Marathon on March 25, 2028 — the first Olympic team selection event for the LA28 Games. The top three men and women will earn spots on Team USA, contingent on meeting the Olympic qualifying standard. Phoenix was the other city that bid for the Trials.
St. Louis hosted the 1904 Games, including the first Olympic marathon ever run on U.S. soil. The proposed course starts at Washington University (site of the 1904 Olympic stadium) and finishes inside Energizer Park, home of MLS club St. Louis CITY SC, in front of a projected 20,000 fans, which is something that has never been done at a Marathon Trials before.
The St. Louis Sports Commission will serve as the local organizing committee with support from Go! St. Louis as key partners in staging the event.
📍 The course starts near Washington University and runs toward downtown, the route passes the Gateway Arch and Busch Stadium before finishing inside Energizer Park. The final layout will be confirmed in the coming months.
🌡️ Historical weather data puts St. Louis at 48-62°F around 11 a.m. on March 25.
📺 NBC will broadcast live starting at 11 a.m. CDT.
For the third consecutive Trials, there is some uncertainty about whether the top three finishers will automatically make the team. The 2027 World Championship standards (2:06:00 men, 2:23:20 women) are dramatically faster than the 2024 Olympic standards. USATF expressed confidence that American performances are rising to meet the bar and that advocacy for a clean first-three-across-the-line selection is ongoing with World Athletics.

Congrats to our Boston finishers! Melanie ran a PR by over 2 minutes in 3:12:19, @DTFtoRun ran his 4th sub 3 hour marathon in 2:57:54 and @MistyGodley finished her race despite a rough 2nd half in 3:50:18! Proud of everyone!
Good news that I missed, @usatf expanded the tier program to include the top 12 at a global championships (or top 15 world ranking + young talent). That includes health insurance + $12k + travel and more.
In 2022, there were 158 athletes who received this benefit.
Congratulations to all the finishers but shout out to this crew who were part of 2 different teams finishing in 2nd in open division and 5th in mixed division at Michigan Outback Relay!
These two had massive PR's at Grandma's Marathon running side by side for almost 26 miles! 3:14:29 for @MistyGodley and 3:14:37 for @melaniemangi ! Easily getting their Boston qualifiers!
