Councils are warning England fans not to fly the St George’s Cross during the World Cup, claiming it is “unsafe” and bad for “community cohesion”.
In England. During a World Cup.
If you are offended by England’s flag, feel free to make your way to the nearest airport.
Seriously, who the bloody hell does this unelected Reform mouthpiece think he is? No mandate, no office, no authority yet he's in Washington talking about 'saving Britain' as if he speaks for 68 million people.
He speaks for himself, not the United Kingdom."
🚨BREAKING: Counter Terrorism Police are now in control of the investigation into the stabbing at the co-op Academy school in Manchester

The row over defence spending which cost John Healey his job makes Sir Keir Starmer's attempt to give the Chagos islands to Mauritius and rent back the Diego Garcia base for £30billion (admittedly over a long time period) seem even more inexplicable. More at @GBNEWS.
I suppose the original idea of the Home Office was to protect the interests of British people in Britain, and the idea of the Foreign Office was to protect the interests of Britain in other countries.
How did we end up with a Home Office which protects the interests of foreign people in Britain, and a Foreign Office which protects the interests of foreign countries?
One observes with the weary sigh of a man who has seen too many innings spoiled by a batsman who, finding himself on the back foot, demands the umpire change the stumps mid-over.
Labour’s latest wheeze — rushed through under the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Act 2026 — is to switch the Greater Manchester mayoral contest from First Past the Post to the Supplementary Vote system the moment it becomes likely that Mr Burnham will decamp to the Commons after the Makerfield by-election.
The ostensible reason?
To “facilitate tactical voting.”
The actual reason?
To ensure that second preferences from Greens and others can be funnelled away from any right-of-centre challenger and back into the Labour column.
The evidence is not difficult to find.
The change is being hurried forward with a prospective election eyed for 30 July 2026, in flagrant disregard of the Gould principle — the long-standing convention, born of the 2007 review, that major alterations to electoral systems should enjoy at least six months’ clear notice.
The Commons Library briefing noted the breach. Democracy Minister Samantha Dixon’s own May 2026 statement admitted the manoeuvre was prompted by “a possible scenario” in which a mayoral vacancy might arise.
One does not require a crystal ball to see whose interests are being protected.
This is not electoral reform. It is the political equivalent of moving the goalposts when the other side looks likely to score.
The same party that spent years denouncing “Tory fixes” now treats the rulebook as a set of suggestions to be rewritten whenever the numbers threaten to turn against them.
A gentleman plays the game as it stands. He does not demand new rules the instant he fears he may lose.
Yours in profound contempt,
A Gentleman from the Old School
