To give encouragement to others in their spiritual walk, you must be walking close enough to the Savior that you know what to speak. You must see His faithfulness and be changed by it.

However, I did run into someone a couple of years ago who immediately broke down into tears the moment she saw me, told me how her life had been, and asked me to pray for her, without me saying a word. It was a tremendous opportunity to show compassion and forgiveness.
Sometimes I feel like reaching out to all the people who abused me or tried to put me down when I was younger and be like "Hey! I'm still here! You didn't kill me or ruin my life!" but I don't bother.
I'm convinced most of us don't read enough and would be far better off if we digested more literature on a daily basis! There are some great books! And some great works to help us understand the Bible. You cannot listen to every voice, but there are many good books.
While we are not technically going to the field as missionaries, this is essentially what my husband and I are being called to in this transition. So we leave our family as we must, and go into the unknown with the One who knows it. We trust the Lord.
