Artillery fire, gunshots can be heard in my neighbourhood... several times my windows have shook. Gov't says everyone should stay indoors and things are under control.
34 years ago, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Audrey Hepburn gave this passionate speech as world leaders adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Today, her words are as important as ever. #WorldChildrensDay
@zuzunaome That puts the HIV infection rate at a little over 10%, which is in contradiction to the “official” rates of less than 3%. I agree with the approximate 10% figure… but he should NEVER say those folks are “on the run”.
To save money, Malawi's President Lazarus Chakwera has halted all foreign travel for himself and his cabinet with immediate effect.
He has directed ministers who are not in the country to return home. The government has reduced the fuel allowance of top officials by 50%.
@BimbolaCarrol Not on any google maps... but Binty's on Percival St near Pademba Rd, across from the petrol station... Amazing food, good company and a fabulous host.
I've just come from Rainbo... and am continually impressed with their caring attention, efficiency and kindness... to a young girl from a family I'm acquainted with. I accompanied mom and daughter and am so grateful. THANK YOU, Rainbo!

Overheard along the beach on Friday: "I dae go to da "D" concert... but I won't eat next week." Sigh. Setting priorities seems to be an issue these days in SL... kush over sleep; clubbing over food; begging over work; bling-bluff over shoes.
@superrod001@PresidentBio It would be nice to know how much SLL we're talking about here -- 5% = NLe ???? I agree, if that tax were used wisely, it would be a boon to the farming communities.
Re. the budget passed in SL's parliament this week. I expected a bit of austerity. A hiring freeze, cutting overseas travel, reducing salaries, no more debt, etc. Stimulate the private sector and curb gov't expenditures! It's not rocket science.
@superrod001 Some time ago, I asked a certain mobile data provider to provide a "statement" of my account. I wanted to know when I purchased, how many MBs I used, if/when my data had expired, etc. They could or would not. Perhaps this is where we start with holding them accountable
44 million additional teachers are still needed worldwide to achieve quality education for everyone, everywhere.

🇬🇭 How did Ghana go from economic darling to economic chaos?
It was once seen as a model of African progress, but that all changed in 2022.
With surging inflation and rising prices, the nation is facing its worst economic crisis in decades.
@iamdanieldadzie explains ⬇️
"While army officers are certainly the conniving masterminds behind the cataclysmic coup epidemic in West Africa, unscrupulous leaders ... and limp responses to their attacks on democracy have made the region a fertile ground for regime change."
