Never internalize feedback that fundamentally makes you unsure of who you are. Yes, be teachable and always look out for ways to improve but understand that not everyone is qualified to provide you with the quality of feedback thatโs relevant to your growth.
I need to work on being a better friend. Iโm just naturally distant and can unintentionally go long periods of time without talking to anybody. Iโm tryna break this habit but itโs hard when youโre a real life hermit. ๐ญ๐ฅฒ
bell hooks said โTo be loving is to be open to grief, to be touched by sorrow, even sorrow that is unending.โ
we carry people on with us. we carry their legacies and teachings with us, with every step we take and every act of love we enact on ourselves and others. even in grief.
I love lifeโs luxuries. Peaceful days, private experiences, intimate moments, quality fabrics, good makeup and perfumes, nourishing foods, artful aesthetic, boutique hotels, deep connections, the other side of healing. I love all of that. I am no longer shying away from it.
This era of prolonged loss and mourning has caused me to reevaluate how I approach my daily living. I want peace, freedom, balance, joy in daily living & quality time with loved ones above all else.
bell hooks was an extraordinary writer, thinker, and scholar who gave us new language with which to make sense of the world around us. Her work was imbued with a deep commitment to truth-telling, but also with a profound sense of care and love for community. She was a treasure.
safe to say i would not be the writer/the thinker/the person i am if i hadnโt been introduced to bell hooks at 17. i have nothing profound to say, just genuine heartbreak and shock at this immense loss. rest in power bell hooks

We mourn the tremendous loss of bell hooks. A woman of great compassion, courage, & extraordinary intellect. Thank you for always putting your love for Black people in action - for challenging us to imagine a bolder future
Reading bell hooks was my first encounter with explicit Black feminist writing. I'd read things that are arguably Black feminist but hooks put that term into direct motion for me. I am forever grateful for the worlds the work made possible for the me and so so many. Thank you โจ
bell hooks wrote directly for and to Black women, and it is a beautiful thing that everyone can learn from her, but her soul-filled love for us was so apparent in her work
As a first generation college student, bell hooks was the first writer I encountered via academia whose work I was able to enthusiastically discuss with friends and fam *outside* academia. My mom and I read bell hooks together. Iโll always cherish the way her work bridged shores.
