“The most memorable thing was in the 1950 All-Star Game, when he ran into the wall at Comiskey & broke his elbow. He didn’t say anything to anybody, came up & got a base hit. I always said he could hit better with a broken arm than we could with two good arms"

Doctors remove seven bone fragments from Ted Williams’ elbow in a 75-minute operation. He was injured in first network televised All-Star Game & be sidelined until mid-September.
He will go on to hit .350 for the rest of 1950
“Ted Williams got hit on one of his first missions. He was streaming smoke & fire from the engine, which in a Panther usually signalled an explosion that would blow the tail off. He bellied in at 150 mph or more, slid up the runway for 2000 feet, came to a stop, jumped out of the cockpit, off the wing, ran until he was out of danger, turned around & stood there watching the plane burn on the runway.”
