I took Mau, a community cat, for treatment and neutering after she had finished weaning her kittens. She had some breathing issues, so I wanted her properly examined before moving ahead.

Today I was denied tenancy in a residential building in Andheri West, Mumbai — solely because I have two 100% indoor cats.

Most residents in my current building don’t even know I have them. I was willing to give a written undertaking that they would not be a nuisance. (1/2)

As per law, housing societies cannot impose a blanket ban on pets.

Unfortunately, the apartment owner chose not to contest the society’s unlawful stance.

Disappointed by the casual disregard for law and basic reason by the society. (2/2)
