The problem with Gary, Scholes, Butt, etc. is that they form a perception about a player without even watching them play and then act surprised if the player turns out to be different from what they thought. They do not watch games outside the PL/major CL games or even do the basic research that most football fans do when a new player is signed. They tend to form opinions about individuals quickly, often during the transfer window, and maintain those judgments.

For example, Scholes said this when Lammens was signed:

"You buy this lad from Belgium. What's he cost? €20m (£18.2m). I think that tells you everything about him at this point. It tells me he's (Lammens) not a top goalkeeper."

Just like that, based on his cheaper transfer fee, Lammens wasn't deemed to be a top GK. No research, no watching him play, nothing.

Coming back to Sesko, every fan knew he was an uber-athlete. Everyone knew he could have chosen to pursue basketball but chose football. For Gary to be this surprised about his speed and athleticism, you understand that he never took the time to learn about Sesko. I believe we need better pundits than that.
