Frenchie Mae Cumpio's detention is among the world's '10 Most Urgent' press freedom cases, according to One Free Press Coalition.

In collaboration with the Committee to Protect Journalists, International Women's Media Foundation, and Reporters without Borders, the Coalition collated the annual list to raise awareness on the cases of journalists who are being put behind bars for seeking to tell the truth.

The Coalition said "these ten cases illuminate governments' effort at criminalizing journalism, silencing the media, and withholding information from the public."

Frenchie Mae is a community journalist in the Eastern Visayas region. She has been detained for over five years under trumped-up charges of illegal firearms possession and terrorism financing.

LOOK: All U.P. Workers Union-Manila/PGH has released a statement regarding the recent re-selection of Gerardo "Gap" Legaspi for his fourth term as the director of the Philippine General Hospital.

The union condemned the decision, stating that their calls to the Board of Regents to prevent another term under his leadership have fallen on deaf ears.
