What is the biggest weakness of the Lakers organization?
Roster, coaching, GM/front office, ownership, scouting, business/$, etc.
Any material weaknesses?
(Besides podcast hosts, of course)
@MPerfection_ I believe we have all the flexibility we will need because none of our players are negative assets - they are all worth their contracts. KCP is at market value and year three is mostly non-guaranteed, so he could be moved next year if needed.
Standing ovation to Pelinka and the front office...
*Upgraded talent + youth (RS, MH)
*Pursued change/improvement w/out risking core identity/culture
*Maintained clearly defined roles (DG-Wes, RR-RS, DH-MG, etc)
*Perfect cap maneuvering
*No bad contracts
@Ste_Van Oh I love Mitch. He’s a class act and did a very good job for us. But he definitely made some very damaging moves at the end, and I’m glad we changed management before Lebron came.
League history shows how easy it is to squander large advantages... To collect talent w/out chemistry (Clippers, Morey); destroy future cap flexibility (Mitch/Jim); treat players as assets (Ainge); pick the wrong coach.
Credit to Pelinka for truly first rate work (so far...)
I fully recognize LA has large advantages, but the front office has maximized its resources:
*Zero bad contracts under Pelinka
*Building/leveraging Klutch partnership (KCP...)
*Draft success
*South Bay to develop talent (Caruso)
*Trading w/ cap expertise (Schroeder, McGee/Gasol)
After years in the wilderness with Jim Buss and trust lawsuits, old Kupchak, GM Magic quitting on live tv, Byron-Rudy T-Mike Brown-Luke, MozDeng...
It’s such a joy to watch a roster that makes sense, coaches they respect, and a front office that quietly makes the right calls.
I’ve heard many comment that the Lakers were a sleeping giant, and could dominate if their off court management ever fired on all cylinders. It’s still early for Jeanie/Pelinka/Vogel, but it sure looks like LA now has a team that will pursue & maximize all possible advantages...
Jeanie is unfailingly genuine, commands true loyalty/affection, and, critically, stars trust her
Pelinka has the mental chops+drive, learns from mistakes, and showed he can win at the margins
The scouts have killed the draft
Vogel is a basketball junks with an ideal demeanor
