There is nothing that motivates journalists more than a death watch: will he resign, will he be forced out. We saw this with Al Franken and many times before. The press corps mobilize, and like rabid animals obsessively won't let go. Reporters and editors mobilize, and both front pages and editorial pages are filled with will he, won't he, why he should, who will replace him. Meanwhile, stories like Trump's profane rant against Biden and Harris, and in his July 4 message, his lie about Project 2025, the story about his participating in a gang rape of a 12 year old with Jeffrey Epstein, all go uncovered my major media or relegated to back pages with cursory coverage.
