THE DESECRATION OF ISLAM IN NIGERIAN POP CULTURE:
Yesterday, when I went to the supermarket, I had the misfortune of hearing a song in which the singer said (while talking to a woman in a sexual manner), and I quote:
“Ti aba se kiniyen, ki alo yan nofila”
[After we do that thing, let us go pray nafl].
I am happy that Islam is being embedded in our culture is becoming mainstream, but on the other hand, I am saddened that the sacredness of the religion is being stripped away among the people as a result - this is evidenced by the audacity of this singer. Look at the casual invocation of a sacred act of worship in our deen within such a profane context - “Ti aba se kiniyen, ki alo yan nofila” - Ha!
This problem is not just about this one song. That’s why you have the musician, Olamide, literally recite the du’a from the Qur’an (2:201) - “Rabbana aatina…” on a song talking about how “Canadian loud, the feeling is different”. This same Olamide, on the same verse, mentioned something about appeasing the gods. Actually, the rapper, Olamide, in particular has a history of doing this rubbish and he needs to be called out. I remember he once did a song where he told a woman he was calling to do sexual acts with - “sare se aluala, salamo” [quickly do your wudu and tasleem]. Who are the Muslims around this guy??
Elsewhere, phrases like “In sha Allah”, “Allahu Akbar”, or “Ma shaa Allah” get used sarcastically, in jest, or in a bid to be edgy by people who don’t understand or respect their spiritual weight. This is spiritual erosion disguised as cultural fluency.
This is part of the rot fueled by who I describe Clandestine Atheists and Glorifies Agnostics - people who posture as enlightened but have stripped sacredness from everything. They float through society, mocking what they do not understand, all while cloaking their spiritual hollowness in trend and clever speech.
I blame the self-proclaimed Muslims around people like Olamide. They are the ones who should draw the lines, set the tone, and prevent these things, but they themselves have no reverence for their religion due to their insistent ignorance. Through silence or complicity, they have allowed this desecration to flourish. When those meant to guard the sanctity of the deen lose reverence, what then can we expect from others?
May Allah protect our hearts.
- Abū Lūt.
The kuffar are short-circuiting again
>They are told propaganda that "Islam oppresses women"
>Then they also see women converting to Islam
Their brains crash as they cannot compute this contradiction, and they respond with an angry hissy fit
Prophet Mohammed ﷺ said: Never a believer is stricken with a discomfort, an illness, an anxiety, a grief or mental worry or even the pricking of a thorn but Allah will expiate his sins on account of his patience.
i will never forget the first time i stumbled upon a recitation of his, it was unlike anything i had ever heard. was so devastated to find out he had passed. may Allah have mercy on his soul, and may he be granted the highest ranks of Jannah 🥹
