Everybody scrolls X and just a few words into a conversation you can gauge exactly where someone stands on literally everything, and that can also see that and at that point it almost isn’t even worth continuing the conversation because it’s just going to be affirming eachother
I like the direction this penguin posting is going. Individualism and the Faustian will after all.
That being said I’m so tired of the internet being so homogenous and presentist. Whenever I open my phone it’s the same current or trend that will be forgotten in two days. It’s like watching the wheel of samsara’s constant hedonic treadmill on repeat. It’s frankly hard to care when the current is so shallow and samey. Whenever I see one person’s opinions I can script the rest of their ecosystem in advanced. If we scripted the internet it would be more interesting and creative than it currently is since the authors would eventually snap and put in plot arcs or more compelling characters.
When I see most social media figures that get popular they’re so obviously digital personas cultivated to feed off certain algorithmic ghettos. I cannot take the things they say as indicative of anything except a performance. It’s like taking a cartoon character’s polticial opinions. People have the opinions that their assigned social role should suggest. “You’re the nerd so you need to say the nerd thing”, “you’re the hot girl so you need to say the hot girl things” or “you’re the Indian fedposter so you say the Indian fedposter things.” If you know someone’s algorithm you know their personality. The society is so hollowed out that the internet is the society now. It’s like a simulation of a real breathing reality but the actual creative current beneath it is gone.
There are exceptions but they are that. Exceptions.
I had a dream last night of puppets in a room operating off an electrical current. You know that the electronics are doing an imitation of living life. You can see all the moving components that could make you pretend this is a real forest with real animals. At the same time you know this is all an illusion. An illusion this elaborate cannot last. It needs constant maintenance with an unstable electrical current to keep going. What happens when all the puppets stop chattering?
None of this is real
