A question worth asking yourself:
"Am I actively learning about what I'm doing?"
You may think to yourself, "I've been doing it for years, and I'm good."
You may be better than the majority, but does it count? A significant number of people are focusing on other areas.
Where do you stand among the experts in your own field?
A person may have been cooking for 20 years but still underperforms compared to a young peer who's been doing it for 5 years.
That 20-year chef learned more in the first years than throughout their entire career, made it to work in a restaurant, and after that, it was just automatically repeating the same thing for years.
It still makes them a better chef than most people but probably places them in the middle among the professionals.
Active learners are always ahead of others. They get better life opportunities, better financial offers, and better jobs.
Yet, the best advantage is the freedom that comes with it.
Honestly, most people get comfortable with what they know until they have to learn more, and that's when other experts have already acquired the new skills. Those skills are no longer special but a necessity.
If you're an active learner, you're a pioneer in needed skills, you're a rare gem in your field; a highly demanded expert.
Everyone wants to work with the best, so you get the freedom to negotiate and choose your own terms.
Also, being an active learner isn't equal to being one-dimensional, focusing only on learning the best recipes in a chef's case, for example.
It's understanding
where you are in life,
what your priorities are,
and what you need to do about it.
As a good chef, you might cook heavenly, but to present it, you may also need great communication skills.
Going that extra mile is what makes you stand out.
Now that you've read to the end, ask yourself again: "Am I actively learning about what I'm doing?"
Remember:
The more it is hard for you to focus on learning, the more necessary it is for you to start learning.
The more you consider yourself to be an expert, the more you need to learn new things.
Thanks for your attention,
