I have learned so much from my colleagues and friends. Learning during a global pandemic SHOULD feel different AND your expectations can remain HIGH.

"You cannot claim to care about marginalized communities, under-resourced communities, and dare to cut LTW.”— NYC council member @MarkTreyger718
“Please don’t look at these people as a budget,”—Karina Torres, 17, transfer school student #SaveLTW https://t.co/fumImaEVkQ
A city-funded internship program allowed 17yo Karina Torres to help her family pay for rent & food amid the pandemic

There are 1,100,000 students in NYC schools.
Yet our schools only have:
1,335 Social Workers
2,958 Guidance Counselors
560 School Psychologists
We have more School Safety Agents (5,500) than Guidance Counselors, Social Workers, and School Psychologists combined.
If you know a high school student who:
🎂 Turned 21 last school year and
🎓 Needs to finish earning credits OR
♿️ Has a disability & missed out on transition supports/services this spring
Share this memo with their school & ask about returning this fall! https://t.co/IYJY9ZwqKp
NYC's principals union is now calling on the mayor to delay in-person instruction until the end of September
"The city started the planning process far too late for them to have any faith or confidence that they can reopen their buildings on September 10"

If DOE is going to put the burden of safety on principals because of their inability to provide guidance & resources, then let’s start heeding their recommendations & delay in-person instruction. Especially for our community given the uptick in infections. https://t.co/OZZN8v3kAe
I stand in solidarity with our Sunset Park & Red Hook school leaders. If our schools don’t have the proper resources in place to re-open, why are we jeopardizing the life’s of our young people?
COVID, truly refocused attention on inequities esp in education! A friend & colleague @inc_yv started a new initiative, raising funds 2 provide those most in need w/technology 4 remote/blended learning as we move forward. Check it out & help if you can!!! https://t.co/G56DFoKGyr
