If anything, more trees are needed in Mosby Court & nearby areas to help combat the heat island effect--a legacy of red-lining that creates hotter temperatures that threaten residents' health & raises the flood risk because there's too much asphalt & too little vegetation. (2/2)
our RVAH2O stakeholders and partners blew this goal out of the water, and well in advance of our ideal timeline. to-date, we've planted 35,870 trees across Richmond.
we achieved our goal by 149.5% 👏🎉🌳
these trees bring an additional 120.3 acres of tree canopy. 4/
one of those strategies is to 🌳 PLANT 🌳 MORE 🌳 TREES 🌳
we communally set a goal of planting 24,000 trees on public property within five years.
but a goal without a plan is just a wish. and our stakeholders had goals and wishes, but they also had plans and so did we. 3/
Happy birthday to our co-founder, @amycwentz! Amy has positively impacted countless other lives through the causes she invests in. Her commitment to building toward a healthier, cleaner, & greener South Richmond that enables all residents to flourish inspires us everyday!🥳
🎉WE DID IT!🙌 Thanks for making ArborDayRVA a success! Our most aspirational year yet, with...
-24 citywide events over 9 days 🗓️
-6 community plantings 🌲🌳
-8 giveaways ✨🌱✨
-8 habitat restoration/community workdays 🍃🐦🐝
-7 tours/educational events 📝
...& so much MORE!
Of course, none of this would've been possible without the collaboration & support of all the community groups, orgs, City depts & divisions, who hosted events all across RVA 👏 We're so lucky to have so many passionate groups, working together to make RVA a greener place 🤗💛🌳
“No one among us will live to see climate change “fixed” at a global level. But for people who live in neighborhoods already hit hard by global warming, hyperlocal action can yield real results.”
