@Levonaxper PSP was released in 2004 & it had a cool CD form called UMD.
In 2009 Sony released the all digital "PSP Go"
It told consumers your discs mean nothing now!
The backlash was large, the PSP Go flopped hard..
So in 2011 Sony released the PSP e1000 which brought back the UMD drive!

PSP Go (2009) proves it's never too late, sales were so bad that Sony was forced to go back to physical media with the UMD drive on the PSP e1000 in 2011

If they don't add an external disc drive to the PS6, sales will eat dirt.
Remember the PS3? Sony had to change a lot & lower the price to get customers back.

Companies have become so big & wealthy (by corruption) that they no longer fear the government.. they bend it to their will.

Sony is now being sued in five countries over claims that it has too much control over digital game sales on PlayStation.

The lawsuits, filed in the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Portugal, and Mexico, argue that because Sony is the only company allowed to sell digital PlayStation games through the PlayStation Store, it can keep prices higher and give players fewer choices.

The all digital PSP Go was a huge failure, so might be an all digital PS6

Ending physical games will negatively impact digital games and game development with it🚀

✅No physical means no 2nd hand market
✅Therefore most won’t buy code in a box
✅Most will buy only from PlayStation Store
✅This gives them more power over pricing

What does this means for gaming?

✅Second hand market is an entry point for many into the ecosystem. They start with used games and then get locked into the console.

✅PS5 already has a big console base. But with PS6, especially with rumors of it costing ~$1000, many will feel deterred from buying a whole new system where they have to buy more expensive games without any second hand alternatives.

✅This can very much lead to less revenue per game and less games in general

Once again, physical games aren’t just about discs, it’s about ownership, pricing, trading, secondhand and collectors.

If Sony does not want to make discs, then perhaps a limited/on-demand physical version should be made and sold directly to customers by a 3rd party company, like Criterion is to movies, and many other examples.
