Most Hospitals are paid on a DRG basis. This means that they are paid a flat fee based on a diagnosis and what it should cost to take care of such a patient. It is agreed upon in a contract between the hospital and the insurance company.

Imagine if you could reduce length of stay in the hospital! This would reduce the bottom line for hospitals and increase profits.

Here's something that reduced the LOS of ICU patients by 30%: Infrared light.
