On Labor Day, I saw antisemitic posters plastered across Bellevue’s Main Street bridge.
I immediately contacted our outstanding Transportation Department, and by Tuesday morning, they were covered. This was a fast, temporary fix — full removal and repainting will be underway shortly.
As a councilmember — and as a neighbor — I refuse to let hate take root in our city.
Free speech is protected. Vandalism is not.
We must defend the First Amendment and protect our shared public spaces. Bellevue stands for inclusion, respect, and unity. Antisemitism has no place here.
To our Jewish community:
You belong. You are valued. You are not alone.
Let’s continue to stand together — visibly, vocally, and without hesitation — against all forms of hate.

What happened last night in Amsterdam was a modern-day pogrom. 2 days before the anniversary of Kristallnacht, the beginning of the Holocaust, hundreds of fans of the Maccabi Tel Aviv FC were ambushed and attacked in Amsterdam as they left the stadium following a game against AFC Ajax. In a coordinated attack, the mob targeted innocent Israelis and then proudly shared their violent acts on social media. While this happened in Europe, it could easily have happened at any event or on any street, given the depth and urgency of the global rise of antisemitism targeting Jews, Israelis and Zionists. We must remember that the demonization of Jews and Israel never ends just in rhetoric; that it is incumbent upon us all to do whatever we can to combat it before it escalates to such violence. Don’t look the other way. Watch the footage and stand up against antisemitism. Never again is now.

In America, Never Again is Now.

This ‘protest’ began in front of a synagogue. How can anyone suggest this is anything but antisemitism when a sacred house of worship is the target location?

On Sunday, violent extremists proudly praised Hamas and Hezbollah while marching outside an Orthodox Jewish synagogue in Los Angeles. These violent domestic terrorists blocked Jews from entering their synagogue and chanted for the genocide of the Jewish people.

They then vandalized the synagogues, schools, and stores, keyed cars, and assaulted anyone who even appeared Jewish in these Jewish neighborhoods. Where is the outrage?

Please see this for yourself and stand against it. We have seen this before, and people are looking the other way.
