Director of Muslim-Jewish Relations @AJCGlobal. Proud Philadelphia native. Proud Jew. Loves fishing, diner food, and dialogue. Believer in Ecclesiastes 7:16.
Muslims and Jews have a greater responsibility than choosing sides in a war. @mchitrik writes in @rns we must ask “What have I done today to make my neighbor feel safer, more able to live openly according to his convictions?”

How do faith communities and a divided American public square not only bear disagreement, but become enriched by it?
This was a key question we sought to answer at a recent @HarvardHillel discussion on the future of religion in 🇺🇸 https://t.co/8X4cVo6iIF
#eiduladha this year comes in the wake of the mosque shooting in San Diego. Many Muslim communities around the U.S. are feeling vulnerable and threatened. Sending solidarity to Muslim friends from your Jewish neighbors and prayers for safety and an #EidMubarak
We stand in solidarity with the Muslim community in the wake of the horrific shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont that left three people dead.
We commend law enforcement for the swift response to this attack, which is now being investigated as a hate crime.
As the Muslim community across the country grapples with this murderous assault, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring all houses of worship are safe. You are not alone.
Important discussions at @nypl and @ForeignPolicy with @MWLOrg_en Sec. Gen. H.E. Dr. Mohammed Alissa about charting a path through disagreements to cooperation using education and dialogue.
We can curse the dark or find those with whom to light a candle together.
We had a meaningful day at @YUNews, meeting with President @AriBermanYU, faculty, and rabbinic leadership to discuss their many contributions to Jewish life, their role in strengthening American society, and the importance of leading with moral clarity and critical thinking.
Representing AJC were @AJCCEO Ted Deutch, AJC Director of Muslim–Jewish Relations @AriMGordon, AJC U.S. Director of Jewish Communal Engagement and Partnerships @MeggieWysc, and AJC Past President and Chair of Jewish Communal Partnerships @HPSchleifer.
Can Muslims & Jews in America move through the deep tensions around Israeli-Palestinian issues towards partnership? Does Judaism teach cooperation or conflict? Listen to my discussion w/ @shadihamid & @matthewkaemingk on “Zealots at the Gate.”

For #YomHaShoah2026 a new friend and thought partner, Prof. Omar Lamghibchi, Vice Dean and History Chair at @H2Univ and I wrote some thoughts for @JewishNewsUK on how Muslims and Jews can share the narrative of the Holocaust and preserve memory together. https://t.co/YlsqRllN9N
In Morocco, a remarkable gathering took place:
Educators and civic leaders from across the Middle East and North Africa came together to advance Holocaust education and confront hatred through shared learning.
Among those participating was Dr. @AriMGordon, AJC Director of Muslim-Jewish Relations.
We’re grateful to work alongside @OfficialMimouna and other partners to build a world where people of all faiths and nations choose cooperation over conflict.
Investing in constructive partnership and sincere trust are how we shape a new future together.
At a landmark Holocaust education conference in Morocco organized by the @OfficialMimouna, and cosponsored by AJC, educators from across the Arab world gathered in an effort to confront hatred.
@AriMGordon, AJC Director of Muslim-Jewish Relations, said the strongest message to emerge from the gathering was “hope."
Initiatives like this help challenge denial, counter antisemitism, and foster a shared understanding of the consequences of hate.

It was a gift to be a part of this program. With scholars and activists of diverse faiths from across the Muslim world and U.S. working together on combatting hate and fostering cooperation, it truly a “world as it could be” experience.
Last week in Morocco, something powerful happened.
Educators, practitioners, and civic leaders from across the MENA region came together for a conference centered on Holocaust education, memory, and confronting hatred together.
Among those participating was Dr. Ari Gordon, AJC Director of Muslim-Jewish Relations.
Funded in part by the @ClaimsCon, the program—organized by AJC, @AmericanSephard, and @OfficialMimouna —wasn’t just another event. It created a space to move beyond the silence and denial that is far too prevalent in our world.
Amidst regional war, intergroup division, and rampant misinformation we promote critical thinking and human dignity through partnership.
Because how we remember the past shapes how we build the future.
Pluralism, because while the Qur'an gave a new qibla (prayer of direction) to Muslims, it noted "each has a qibla," affirming Judaism & Christianity.
Then "ahl al-qibla" became an umbrella term in early Islam, healing sectarianism.
With thanks to @ronisito who hosted the event.
What took me to Yeshiva University was a discussion on the new book by @AriMGordon:
"Sacred Orientation in Late Antiquity and Early Islam: The Qibla as Ritual, Metaphor, and Identity Marker"
It is a brilliant excavation of pluralism in early Islam:

Yeshiva University’s Zysman Hall looks like a mosque.
It’s a relic of the “Moorish” trend among Western Jews, which embraced Judaism’s “Oriental” roots and viewed Islam as a sister religion.

This was a great article and it was a very fun and productive teaching day on Jerusalem & Mecca, Muslim-Jewish relations and religious identity. ☪️ 🤝✡️

The algorithms don’t send us all the same information. But many Jews heard about ALL of these assaults on synagogues this week. If you have Jewish friends or co-workers they may appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you to Yeshiva University, the world's flagship Jewish university, for hosting AJC.
AJC Director of Muslim-Jewish Relations Dr. @AriMGordon and @CatoInstitute Senior Fellow @AkyolinEnglish joined the @schneierY Program for International Affairs for an intensive day of meetings and teaching sessions with students, faculty, and administrators @YUNews to better understand the history and current state of Muslim-Jewish interaction.
It was a gift to be able to teach about the history of Muslim-Jewish relations, sacred geography in the Middle East 🕋🧭🖖🕍alongside @AkyolinEnglish and @ronisito at my Alma Mater, Yeshiva University.
