This is Dhira Chaliha Hazarika, the first female pilot from the state of Assam, India.

In 1961, at the age of 21, she earned her Pilot’s A Licence.

And in September 2025, at the age of 85, she returned to the skies, taking the controls of a historic Tiger Moth biplane over the English countryside.

I confess, I wasn’t aware of her pioneering story… and I suspect many others weren’t either.

She deserves a place in India’s Aviation Hall of Fame simply for being a trailblazer.

But for flying again at 85, she belongs in a global Hall of Fame for her courage, her resilience, and her life-affirming spirit.

Zubeen da left us too soon. 💔 Hard to believe that the voice which became the heartbeat of our generation, the songs we grew up with, has now fallen silent. Assam has lost a true cultural icon. His contribution to music and the cultural identity of Assam will remain eternal. 🎶

• Assam needs sub-classification among STs to address the inherent differences among various tribes.

• A socio-economic caste census must guide fair sub-classification.

• Areas inhabited by these new entrants should be notified as protected belts & blocks, with their political seats reserved for STs.

• ST reservation in jobs and education should be allocated proportionately (around 40–50%) in the state.
