@mightbeautistic Anyone else remember the days in school when you knew you were going to be watching a video because you heard the TV was on before you went into the class? (Not because the TV was playing anything yet, it was just…making that high pitched sound.)
@ItsEmilyKaty Absolutely happened to me. When I was a kid the TV (an 80s CRT) fell on my sister and I agonized over whether it was important enough to interrupt my mom, who was working upstairs. (Sister wasn’t badly hurt and is fine.)
@cozychocola @mightbeautistic Combine it with ADHD and you get “I feel like garbage for no reason, guess I must be garbage.” “Oh wait…how long has it been since my last period?”
@Red_Dazes I should be good, then. She does have a love interest, but her decision on this has nothing to do with him and everything to do with her own agency.
One of these days I will write an epic fantasy about the Doom Scroll, an evil document that fills the reader with despair but once you begin reading it, you can never put it down.
@kmellis@lindaholmes Another way it’s a useful metaphor: my vision isn’t *that* bad. I could function without my glasses, I would squint and get more headaches but I’d get by. But no one says I’d be a better person if I struggled along without glasses. My ADHD, though…can’t I just “try harder?”
@Kiraofthewind1 Seriously? There are still people dragging out that argument? I’m 40 and have been into nerd culture since I was a kid. People were saying there were no girls in nerd culture then and they were already wrong…
@ConnieBDowell@SNeurotypicals Same, if I’m not wearing socks I’m thinking way too much about where I walk, getting distracted by every weird texture on the floor, not doing things that would require me to walk by the litterbox because *shudder*…
@RosalynEves@BecauseIMatter@mightbeautistic My 11yo has ADHD and anxiety and the patches (Daytrana) seem to work better for him than pills, so that might be worth looking into.
@mightbeautistic I don’t think it’s the whole story by any means, but I think there are a lot of stimulants being sold that aren’t helping anyone, ADHD or AuDHD.
@mightbeautistic There are huge differences between how stimulants made me feel, even between different “generics” that are supposed to be the same. Getting generics felt like a roulette wheel. I’m on a name brand now (free through an assistance program) and it works for me.
@sarahtilton_ @Jared_VanL Me reading the first two: “totally understandable but don’t apply to me personally”
Me reading #3: “How did you know this about me when I didn’t know this about me until I read it?!?!”
I celebrated adding a new cold-blooded friend to my family by designing a sticker of her enjoying her favorite pastime: basking! Her name is Hatshepsut—Hattie for short—and she is beautiful and awesome. https://t.co/jAX3Gg7NB7
@Shougoney@jennayfahey@DrSpooky_ER This reminds me of a time when my brother peeked in my little sister’s ear and told her he saw a sign there that said “Space for rent.”
“Oh yeah?” said my sister. “Well, yours is for SALE!”
@Kiraofthewind1 My family would fit right into your world, then. My daughter has my last name and my son has his dad’s. Hasn’t really caused any confusion yet.
@ValerieYeva@blkgirllostkeys I have nebulous plans to stay in a hotel for a weekend to write without the household distractions. My husband is 100% on board, absolutely fine with staying home with the kids. I keep saying as soon as I “catch up” on a few things, I’ll book a room…but I can’t catch up…
