During yesterday's bargaining session, REI Union Cleveland signed a tentative agreement with REI on a provision to establish a safety committee in our store! This is the SECOND EVER TA that our union has reached with the company! (Our first TA was signed in Feb 2024.)

On January 8th, REI laid off over 400 skilled guides after deciding to entirely eliminate the Experiences division. REI says it cares about getting members outside, and for decades, our passionate coworkers in Experiences have made that Co-op value a reality. Now, REI is prioritizing profits over people as it jeopardizes hundreds of people’s livelihoods and strays from its role as a steward of the outdoors.

This story - covered by @KUOW, is becoming eerily familiar. REI laid off over 400 employees in October 2023, including 275 tenured Green Vests, and another 300 of our coworkers at the beginning of last year. At the same time, REI continues to spend valuable resources on corporate union-busting attorneys. REI is losing its way as it emphasizes profits above all else.

We’re coming together to restore the things that make our Co-Op special If you haven’t yet, please follow the link in our bio and endorse Tefere Gebre for the REI Board of Directors.
