Рівно 53 роки тому американці вивели війська з В'єтнаму. Кісінджер отримав завдання здобути «мир з честю». У реальності це означало: вивести американські війська, віддати союзника на повільне удушення і зробити вигляд, що «народ сам обрав своє майбутнє». Південний В'єтнам розумів, що Паризькі угоди — це не мир, а відкладена смерть. Але їх змусили піти на них.

Південний В'єтнам змусили жити поряд із ворогом, який поводився не краще, ніж сьогоднішня Росія. США пообіц��ли: якщо Північ порушить угоду — повернемось, допоможемо. Коли Північ саме це й зробила — у Вашингтоні раптом заговорили про «корупцію» і «нее��ективність» Сайгону. Допомога різко почала скорочуватись «з принципових міркувань». Гарантії безпеки розчинились у повітрі. Навіть американські військові, які мали стати гарантом миру, просто втекли.

Фінал був очевидний: поразка Півдня, порушення всіх обіцянок, вертольоти на даху посольства, люди, що чіпляються за трапи, і холодна тиша Вашингтона.

Кісінджер отримав Нобелівську премію миру. Південний В'єтнам отримав поневолення, концтабори і сотні тисяч загиблих.

Це сталося задовго до Трампа і сьогоднішньої війни. То про які переговори та гарантії може йти мова, якщо США завжди кидали своїх союзників напризволяще?
