@DrSteveTaylor@BBCHughPym@wesstreeting@DHSCgovuk Do hair salons have an unlimited number of appointments available each day? [No! They offer a set number of appointments based on how many hairdressers are working that day, & how long each client will take. They don't want to rush & accidentally cut someone's ear off! 😱]
I have obtained the patient’s permission to share his story below…
I’ve chosen to post it now, years later, as I feel it highlights the danger of taskification of medicine & how detrimental it can be for patients
Some details changed for further anonymity

GPs/Pharmacies/Hospices will be faced with paying the higher rate of NI contributions that come into force next month after MPs rejected amendments to a bill that was approved by the House of Lords
307 MPs voted against the amendments, with 182 voting in favour.
Failed politics
Having a choice of professionals in General Practice for patients is vital for the future of Primary care l
The key is ‘choice’
Additional roles have been added at the expense of GP provision with NHS England spending £1.4bn on ARRS, whilst cutting £2bn from GP Practices
There are shortages of GPs because NHS England has failed to fund GP practices to retain, employ or increase their capacity
A cut in funding by 20% £/patient in the last 8yrs & investing in other roles instead, we now have unemployed GPs who are unable to get work
@NickTriggle
GP Committee says the publication of today’s Darzi report is the moment for ‘the revival and rebirth of general practice
The report has accurately identified many of the major issues facing GP but we now keen to hear from the Govt what the solutions are

Dear GPs ,1) are you burning out? 2) Are your partners? Please be empathetic 3) you’re human , it’s ok to admit it if you are. 4) YOU ARE NOT THE JOB . Both @DrSpanielPaws and Dr Claire Ashley speaking by about burnout. - BBC Breakfast https://t.co/p34QeJjduc via @YouTube
Doctors are human too!
There has been an increasing number of GPs suffering from burnout due to the increasing demands and pressures placed on them
@DrSpanielPaws spoke to @BBCBreakfast about her experience of burnout
GPs like me aren’t ‘punishing patients’
Without change
‘we are hurtling towards a two-tier model similar to dentistry, where it will be a postcode lottery whether an NHS GP will be available for you at all’

GPs have a very small voice when it comes to decisions
Despite this 80% of people with consult a GP every year
Many more than once
170m consults a year with a GP
The voice is small but patients need access to them
2000 fewer than 2015 available - 8000 fewer than what is needed
@NHSEngland have been largely silent on the IT issues that have affected patients, GP Practices and Pharmacies
The knock on effects will be felt into the week ahead, prescriptions, appointments, results
What is the plan?
Where is the support & information for patients?
GP patient care continuity has been replaced with ‘Health Care Professional continuity’ in the patient survey
This will mean it is now incompatible with previous years
This is manipulation by NHS England to fix their agenda away from GPs & fix the results
@wesstreeting
@lizzie_toberty In the above model, patients would see a nurse practitioner, then a GP, then be referred to secondary care? How is that an improvement? There is so little awareness of the referrals that GPs don't make; the complexity of health that we manage in the community.
