Björn Höcke, the AfD leader in Thuringia, described the Berlin Holocaust Memorial as a "monument of shame" and suggested Germany should stop atoning for its Nazi past. In July 2023, he echoed Nazi rhetoric by saying, "This EU must die so that the true Europe may live." These statements were cited in a CNN article from May 24, 2023, and a DW article focusing on AfD leaders' remarks.

- Alexander Gauland, former co-chair of the AfD, trivialized the Nazi era by calling it "just a speck of bird's muck in more than 1,000 years of successful German history" in a speech to the AfD's youth wing in June 2018. This statement is referenced in a DW article discussing the party's history and leadership.
