@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 I'm not repeating any state narrative. I'm pointing 2 basic facts & logic: Russia invaded first (2014), Ukr sought protection afterward, Finland & Sweden did the same w/o being attacked. You're the one recycling the Kremlin’s "they provoked us" talking point. Your are projecting.
@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 aggression by blaming the victim.
Finland and Sweden also joined NATO after Russia invaded Ukraine without being attacked. They saw the threat and sought protection. Same logic Ukr followed. If seeking NATO is "provocation" then Finland and Sweden are also "aggressors"...
@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 Russia's red line argument is the logic of an empire: "you can't choose your allies because I claim you as my buffer." Ukr is a sovereign country, not Russia's property. After Crimea 2014 and Donbas, seeking protection is self-defense, not aggression...
@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 The real budget hole right now is the costly US war with Iran, already tens of billions. Iran has a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty with Russia (signed 25) and has reportedly received Russia assistance (intel, tech, missiles) in that conflict. So US money is fighting...
@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 Ukr didn’t want this war. Seeking NATO membership after Russia already seized Crimea and started a war in Donbas in 2014 is not provocation, it’s self-defense. Countries don't invite invasion by asking for protection. Blaming the victim for knowing an aggressor... pure evil.
@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 US direct funding to Ukr has been drastically reduced. Most weapons now reaching Ukr are paid 4 by European countries buying American equipment and transferring it. Meanwhile, the biggest recent US military expense is the costly war of choice with Iran, already tens of billions.
@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 Ukr didn't want this war. Russia invaded. USA aid is to stop a nuclear-armed aggressor from redrawing borders by force, something that directly affects US and EU security. Calling the victim of invasion 'our enemy' while ignoring who started the war is pure inversion of reality.
@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 Even Gorbachev himself tells you so... Do your research before bringing up extreme counterexamples that don't apply to this situation.
@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 Before. The 'not one inch eastward' talk in 1990 was about East Germany during reunification, not a ban on future members. No treaty ever prohibited NATO expansion. Gorbachev himself later said broader enlargement "was not discussed." Budapest Memo was 1994...
@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 Calling the invasion 'defensive' ignores that Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and started the war in Donbas years before Ukr was close to NATO. Ukraine applied 4 membership only after the full-scale 2022 invasion.
@Conclave911@JohannaNyman5 NATO was created in 1949 to defend Western Europe against Soviet expansion, not to 'annihilate Russia.' Russia was invited to cooperate after 1991. NATO expansion happened because former Soviet states asked to join for protection, not because NATO forced them.
